$ELLING
OUT THE INVESTIGATION
BY BILL MANNING
"Fire Engineering has good reason to believe that
the "official investigation" blessed by FEMA
and run by the American Society of Civil Engineers is
a half-baked farce that may already have been commandeered
by political forces whose primary interests, to put
it mildly, lie far afield of full disclosure. Except
for the marginal benefit obtained from a three-day,
visual walk-through of evidence sites conducted by ASCE
investigation committee members-described by one close
source as a "tourist trip"-no one's checking
the evidence for anything."

The
collapse of the WTC towers looked like a classic controlled
demolition, said Mike Taylor of the National Association
of Demolition Contractors in Doylestown, Pennsylvania.
"If there's any good thing about this it's that
the towers tended not to weaken to one side," said
Taylor. "They could have tipped onto other buildings
or into the river across the West Side highway."The
collapse of the WTC towers mirrored the strategy used
by demolition experts. In controlled demolitions, explosives
are placed not just on the lowest three floors but also
on several consecutive floors about a third of the way
up the building. Read

Twin
Tower Collapses
Photographic Evidence of the Twin Towers' Destruction
The surviving photographs of the tower collapses are
an invaluable resource for understanding the cause and
nature of the largest structural failures in history.
Given the rapidity with which the suffocating dust invaded
the surrounding city, many photographs were taken at
great personal risk. Indeed, at least one professional
photographer, Bill Biggart, died in the act of recording
the horrific events. See

The Thermite Reaction
Another great example of a thermodynamically spontaneous
reaction is the thermite reaction. Here, iron oxide
(Fe2O3 = rust) and aluminum metal powder undergo a redox
(reduction-oxidation) reaction to form iron metal and
aluminum oxide (Al2O3 = alumina):
Fe2O3(s) + 2 Al(s) Al2O3(s) + 2 Fe(l) --- See
